Marion Arkansas Gets the Nod

Marion, Ark., may have finally landed an auto assembly plant, according to reports from The Wall Street Journal.

The disappointment felt by Marion officials in May when Toyoto Motor Corp. announced it would build its seventh North American auto manufacturing plant in Canada could be washed away by reports that Hino Motors Ltd., an affiliate of Toyota, plans to open its second U.S. assembly plant in Marion in 2007.

Marion, which is located just across the Mississippi River from Memphis, was reportedly Toyota’s second choice for the plant that landed in Ontario. But Hino chairman Tadaaki Jagawa told The Wall Street Journal that Marion is Hino’s choice for a plant that would build 3,000 to 4,000 trucks a year, with the possibility for future expansion.
